Is Your E-Bike Controller Acting Up?
The controller is the most complex component in your e-bike system. When something goes wrong, it can be tricky to diagnose. Here are the most common controller problems and how to fix them.
Problem 1: E-Bike Won't Turn On
Check your battery voltage first. If the battery is charged, inspect the controller's power wires for loose connections or corrosion. A blown fuse is also a common culprit.
Problem 2: Motor Cuts Out Under Load
This usually indicates the controller is overheating or the battery can't supply enough current. Check your battery's discharge rating (C rating) and ensure your controller has adequate heat dissipation.
Problem 3: Erratic Speed or Stuttering
Stuttering is often caused by a faulty throttle signal or a hall sensor issue in the motor. Test your throttle with a multimeter and check the hall sensor wires for damage.
Problem 4: Error Codes on Display
Most modern controllers communicate errors via the display. Refer to your controller's manual for error code definitions. Common codes relate to over-voltage, under-voltage, and motor phase errors.
